Crowns & Bridges

Root Canals

Dental implants are medical grade titanium posts or screws that act as substitute roots of teeth. They are placed into the jaw bone and bone attaches onto the implant in a process known as “osseointegration.” An implant can be used to replace one tooth where a single crown is placed on the implant or several implants can be placed to support prostheses such as dentures or bridges. The number of dental implants needed depends on several factors such as:

  • The number of teeth to be replaced.
  • The location of the prosthesis (e.g. upper, posterior jaw versus lower, anterior jaw) as the quality of bone varies by the location in the mouth. The upper, posterior jaw has much less dense bone than the lower anterior jaw.
  • The type of prosthesis (eg. over denture versus bridge).
